Phone Number Ownership Verification Required for Hosted SMS on Twilio

To enhance account security and prevent unauthorized hosting of phone numbers, Twilio now requires phone number ownership verification.

To host a new phone number on Twilio, you must first confirm that you own it by entering a One-Time Passcode (OTP) you'll receive through the Console or API. Twilio will then call the number in question, and you'll need to input this OTP during the call to complete the verification process.

To protect your account and prevent unauthorized hosting, Twilio will require verification for each new phone number you want to host. This will not affect phone numbers already hosted on Twilio, but you will need to complete this verification step for any new numbers.

When you attempt to host a new phone number, you will need to follow these steps:

  1. User initiates the hosting process and selects 'Verify' for a phone number.
  2. A code is displayed in the Console or API.
  3. Twilio calls the number to be hosted, requesting the code.
  4. User enters the code during the call.
  5. Twilio verifies the code's accuracy.
  6. Upon successful verification, the user may continue the hosting order.
