Free trial FAQs

There are some limitations on your free trial account that are removed once you upgrade to a paid account:

For text messages:

  • US customers can't send from trial toll-free numbers until they've completed toll-free verification. They can send to the Twilio Virtual Phone.
  • Messages begin with “Sent from a Twilio trial account”
  • You can only send messages to non-Twilio phone numbers you’ve verified with Twilio
  • You cannot send messages using an alphanumeric sender ID

For phone calls:

  • A short trial message plays before your TwiML runs that asks you to press any key to proceed with the call itself
  • Calls are limited to 10 minutes
  • As a security measure, any non-Twilio phone numbers you want to place calls to or receive inbound calls from must be verified first, or the call will fail.
  • You can use either your Twilio number or a verified caller ID as your “from” number
  • You may make international calls from your trial account with GA and Public Beta phone numbers

For SIP trunking:

  • 1 unique SIP trunk
  • 1 origination phone number
  • 1 Trunking termination call per second (CPS)
  • 4 concurrent calls

If you run out of free credits and you want to continue using your Twilio account, you will need to upgrade to a paid account. You can do that by visiting the billing page in the Console and providing payment information like a credit card or Paypal account. Then, you’ll be able to buy credits or choose to have Twilio automatically add funds to your account when you fall below a set balance.

You can upgrade to a paid account at any time. All you need to do is provide payment information like a credit card or Paypal account.

Once your payment information is added, you can choose to buy credits or have Twilio automatically add funds to your account when you fall below a set balance.

When you upgrade to a paid Twilio account, you can use your same credentials to create accounts with SendGrid and Segment to take advantage of our email platform and Customer Data Platform.

If you need help with your account or use case, you can reach out to our support team through our website or browse through our Help Center articles, blog, or docs.
