Extension of Configurable Queue TTL/Validity Period

TL;DR: Queue TTL/ValidityPeriod default value is increasing from 4 to 10 hours.

Starting May 12, 2025, Twilio is increasing the default Queue TTL and Validity Period for SMS and MMS from 4 to 10 hours. This change will roll out in phases, starting with messages sent from SMS API, MMS API and MMS messages sent with Messaging Services, with the goal to include all Messaging Services messages by the end of Q2.

This adjustment aims to improve message deliverability and reduce the occurrence of 30001 errors. Customers will retain the ability to set custom Validity Periods as per their specific needs. If a custom ValidityPeriod value is not configured by the customer,  this update will establish 10 hours as the new default maximum that is set by the system.

Further Updates for Messaging Services & OTT API Customers:

For SMS & OTT customers using Messaging Services, the default Validity Period adjustment to 10 hours will take place later in Q2.

For customers using OTT API, the default Validity Period adjustment to 10 hours will take place further in the future.

Details of this specific OTT API phase will be announced in a subsequent changelog.
