Twilio Talks UK Ridesharing In London with DriveNow, GoCarShare, and More
Time to read: 1 minute
Everything is on-demand. Tech savvy people are switching from owning cars, apartments, and parking spaces to renting them. The ride-sharing and car-sharing industry has massively changed from this cultural switch. Twilio is helping power on-demand services for companies like DriveNow, Lyft, and Uber.
Last month at our London HQ, the car-sharing, car-pooling, taxi and automotive industry came together for the inaugural Twilio Talks on Modern Urban Transportation, to discuss alternatives to car ownership. We were joined by three industry specialists – DriveNow‘s Director of UK, Department for Transport’s Head of Accessibility, and GoCarShare‘s CEO.
DriveNow –
DriveNow’s Director of UK, Joe Seal-Driver, told the company back-story, where and how it works, and what impact it’s having on the future of transportation. Every DriveNow car now accounts for 6-13 normal cars of the road. You can find his slides here.
Department of Transport
Coming from the public-sector, Department for Transport’s Shane Snow approached alternatives to car sharing from a different perspective. He posed the question, “What is it you need from me?”, which opened up a larger discussion about how much government should be involved in this sector, and how much should be left to private companies.
GoCarShare
GoCarShare’s Drummond Gilbert focused on the behavioral aspects of car sharing such as how to overcome psychological barriers that still exist and create ecosystems built on trust which would lead to further adoption. He also shared his learnings about how to create unconventional marketing campaigns to influence behavioural change. Check out his slides here.
Learn More About How Twilio Powers RideSharing
Twilio drives SMS communications at two key stages of DriveNow’s customer journey. First, when a user registers for DriveNow, they receive a confirmation PIN by SMS. When a user then reserves a car via the DriveNow app, they receive a message containing important information – including car model, color and location. Twilio also powers communications for Carwow, Lyft and many others.
We look forward to seeing you at the next Twilio Talks event!
