Twilio Programmable Wireless is now Generally Available 🎉

We’re excited to announce that Programmable Wireless becomes Generally Available today. Programmable Wireless provides cellular connectivity for IoT devices, powered by simple, scalable APIs and extensive global reach.
Since our beta release in July 2017, you’ve used Programmable Wireless to power a wide range of innovative use-cases. iBeat is reimagining the personal emergency response category with a cellular-connected watch that responds to cardiac incidents. Eatabit makes a cellular thermal printer for online food ordering. Dwelo released a cellular connected smart hub for apartment buildings to remotely monitor and manage unoccupied apartments. SystemOne, pioneers in the global health industry, are deploying cellular connected medical diagnostic devices serving developing economies.
Updated Pricing
Throughout the beta period, we examined data usage and noticed that consumption tends to cluster around a few tiers based on IoT use case categories. As part of today’s release, we’re introducing revised data pricing to better support popular consumption tiers in a self-service manner.
We’re also introducing a “Quota” based data pricing model that enables developers to support both high and low consumption IoT use cases globally, with better support for devices that travel across borders in a single billing period. Improved Operational Visibility
To operate your deployment, we know that you need visibility into how your SIMs are connecting and consuming resources. From today, you’ll notice improved reporting capabilities in the usage section of the Programmable Wireless Console, including spend-reporting at a per-SIM level.
Production Readiness
As a Generally Available product, Programmable Wireless is covered by Twilio’s standard SLAs, including API availability of 99.95%. Developers will receive full support from our globally distributed customer support team.
To carry the GA seal of approval, Twilio products are required to meet a set of stringent quality and reliability requirements. Throughout the beta period, Programmable Wireless endured resiliency testing to identify and eliminate points of failure as well as audits of security, architecture, and operational processes. This framework is known internally as the Operational Maturity Model (OMM), appropriately nicknamed “Ironman”.
