Innovation Spotlight: How Datadog's integration keeps your Cloud Communications safe while prioritizing uptime

At Twilio, we are lucky to work and partner with some of the leading companies in their respective fields, from AI experts, to voice translators, to SaaS platforms that are breaking the mold. One of these companies, who we are proud to work with is Datadog, who is shaping how businesses observe and learn from their data. Datadog is a leading SaaS-based observability and security platform that brings together telemetry from across your tech environment – including infrastructure metrics, application traces, logs, and more – in a single pane of glass. Their platform gives you the visibility you need across your entire stack to ensure that your applications and services run smoothly, and the tools to optimize performance and troubleshoot issues when they arise.
After years of a close relationship, the expansion of our engagement solutions, and the ingenuity of Datadog’s integrations team – Datadog saw an opportunity to better serve our shared customers by creating an integration with Twilio to monitor performance issues, optimize costs, and detect threats. Below we will walk you through this integration and how it can impact your communications platform instantly.
There are three central ways end users can use Datadog’s Twilio integration:
Overall performance
The integration collects message, call summary, and event logs to analyze performance issues and detect threats. You can analyze message logs to track total delivery and troubleshoot message errors (as a note, Datadog never collects message bodies). Call Summary logs provide metadata and performance of all calls made from your Twilio account.
Security
When it comes to security, the Twilio integration works with Datadog’s Cloud SIEM product to correlate Twilio event logs to detect threats in real-time. Built on top of our advanced log management product, customers can determine if any action taken within Twilio, such as account deletion or provisioning a phone number, was anomalous. A shared view of threats allows developer, security, and operations teams to investigate and resolve security incidents faster.
Cloud Cost Management (CCM)
We know how important cloud investments are to our customers, which is why Datadog now has a product called Cloud Cost Management, or CCM. CCM unifies cost and observability data from across your cloud infrastructure to make understanding and tracking cloud costs easy. With SaaS cost integrations, you can monitor your Twilio costs in a dedicated cost management Datadog product. Once configured, you can view information like SMS carrier fees, outbound voice minutes, and more. This level of visibility allows engineering and finance teams alike to drive better business decisions by identifying inefficiencies and reallocating spend as needed.
Datadog’s Twilio integration comes with an out-of-the-box dashboard that provides a high-level overview of key metrics like alert aggregation and message and call logs, making it easy to quickly evaluate the performance of your Twilio resources.
As the leading communications platform, Twilio is constantly creating and upgrading its suite of products to keep up with our 300K+ customers. Given that Datadog is a leader in the observability industry, Datadog’s Twilio integrations give our customers the confidence to quickly understand how their Twilio resources and infrastructure can be optimized.
As the ways to communicate and engage with customers continues to grow, we are dedicated to providing the tools, software, and APIs for you to manage this engagement at scale. For our customers who are already a fan of Datadog and utilize their suite of observability products [just like we do] the Twilio integration is the way to uplevel your observability across platforms.
