Seattle Startup Weekend Recap
Time to read: 1 minute
Clocking in at almost 200 attendees, this was the largest Startup Weekend I’ve been to. Team sizes were large, and many of the teams had more members than a lot of startups I know. However, I think this led to more thinking through of the business before starting any work, which resulted in more research and validation of the ideas. By Sunday, there were 23 teams that presented and the winners were:
- A Place for Rover – Airbnb for dogs.
- Forms for Hire – Online HR document management.
- Ride My Design – Site for customizing snowboards and skis.
Honorable mention went to the team of high school students for their project, Student Navigator, a social networking site for students.
Three teams used Twilio, and two won special awards, Tablely, ShakeUp Call (Most Disruptive), and Heart Mob (Most Likely to Change the World). Tablely created a system for restaurants to manage table reservations through SMS. Shakeup Call, which shook up Startup Weekend by receive a Cease & Desist from an established competitor, create a social alarm clock. Heart Mob created a site where people can organize and subscribe to flash mobs for activism.
