My SIGNAL London 2017 Schedule
Time to read: 3 minutes
In just under a week we will be hosting SIGNAL London for the second time with even more talks, hands-on learning, live demos and the first ever European $BASH.
Every single one of the talks at SIGNAL London has been carefully selected, here’s the full schedule. But if I were to choose, these are the talks that I’m personally most excited about:
[11:15] Sharpening my tools
We all know how important 2FA is to keep all your logins and data secure. With most 2FA being done via SMS messages, hackers a few months ago managed to use an exploit on the SS7 Network to hack a bank. In his session, B. Byrne will talk about this vulnerability and ways to improve an SMS integration to make it work best for 2FA.
[11:55] Serverless is all the rage
Back at SIGNAL SF 2017, we announced Functions that let you run your Twilio code on Twilio’s servers without having to spin up your own. In their talk, Martin Amps and Kat King will not only talk about how to get started with Twilio Functions using live-demos but also about the benefits of building with Functions and the new features that will be launched on that same morning.
[12:45] Protecting my data… And yours…
Data protection is not exactly my day job, but it is something we should all be aware of. General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will change how businesses process and handle data and there’s less than a year left to comply. In this session, Sheila Jambekar will share how Twilio is tackling compliance and share insights to help organisations address data protection.
[13:30] New Product
During SIGNAL London’s keynote, there will be a new product announcement and this session will be fully dedicated to it. Jen Aprahamian and Aayush Iyer will be talking about the product and showing us how to use it. This is one I want to be in the front row for.
[14:10] Expanding my Horizons
My good friend Karen Cohen posted the following on Twitter the other day:
SMS learning curve starts out linear, then quickly turns exponential. pic.twitter.com/b5SviK375n

Very true. Getting started with anything is like that, and in their Copilot session, Saurabh Daftary and Kavya Prasad will talk about increasing messaging volume, expanding to new countries while complying with ever-changing regulations in each of them. I am really interested in some of these challenges and am pleased to know that there’s a product that will just handle these for me.
[14:50] Sitting this one out….
Not really… But this is usually the time of the day when I really start to miss not having done any coding during the day. Well, my friends in the Developer Education team will be running Superclass the entire day. If you don’t know what Superclass is, this quick video will give you a taste of it.
[15:50] Getting me some IoT
If you’ve been following me on Twitter or read some of my previous blog posts you’ll know I care a great deal about IoT. In their session, ZhiCheng Miao and Andres Jaan Tack will be talking about how to use Twilio Wireless and Twilio Runtime to unlock the full potential of the Internet of Things. They will use Twilio-powered SIM cards to live-code a serverless connected car fleet tracking solution.
[16:30] The “S” in IoT Stands for Security. Right?
As you may know, IoT Security remains lacking up until this day. In this talk, Tim Panton will discuss some of the past learnings from the VoIP community that can also be applied to IoT. He will then get into how to use WebRTC data channels for data transport on your internet enabled things.
[17:00] Time to partay!
$BASH, the amazing developer party, is making its way to London! The $BASH team will bring games, challenges and a lot of fun to a single place. I can’t really express enough how awesome it is without showing you this little teaser from the last one.
See you there?
