Holonumber Saves Deals, Goes Mobile With Twilio
Time to read: 2 minutes
Time kills all deals, but so do faulty VoIP connections.
“Every damn time! Every time we were closing the deal, we’d have some interruption or the connection would break down or lag. By the time they’d call back, the customer changed their mind.” says Costin Miu
Costin previously used Skype to manage sales calls for his e-commerce website. But, when he wasn’t near his computer, he would have to rely on whatever data connection he had available. And even if he was at his computer to answer a call, he’d suffer delays or dropped calls. It wasn’t good for business. As a dyed-in-the-wool engineer, he set out to fix his problem with code along with his friend Georgi. They chose Twilio as their weapon of choice.
Costin and Georgi’s solution is an iOS app, Holonumber. The app gives anyone a reliable secondary line for their business, without being bound to a desktop, or at the whim of VoIP hiccups. Call quality was Costin’s top concern for Holonumber. He refused to accept anything less from other providers.
Quality Is Consistency
“The quality of service that we were offered from other providers was down right disappointing,” says Costin. “Going with a poor service provider would have been a self defeating service. With Twilio, I can buy any number and it will work right out of the box, no headache, no trouble. This is what we want for customers too.”
Costin still had to engineer his dreams for customers into reality. Building an iOS app isn’t the easiest endeavor. This is doubly true when you’re tracking users’ account balance for calls, managing sub-accounts, and inventory. But, with a dash of Objective C, PHP, and a hefty dose of Twilio’s Useage API Triggers for account balance notifications, Costin and his team shipped the app to the App Store.
“We are not young guys, so we used Objective C on the iOS side,” Costin jokes. Using Twilio’s documentation and their own ingenuity, Costin’s team deployed Holonumber to the App Store without one call or ticket filed to support.
Now users can pick from phone numbers in over 40 countries. Wherever their business goes, their number goes with them, and they can be confident in their call quality. Why? Because Costin and Georgi stand by their code, and stand by Twilio.
“I buy a phone number and it works, I ask a question and it’s answered. This is how it’s supposed to work,” says Costin.
