Twilio Joins Etsy and Dwolla to Hack eCommerce
Time to read: 2 minutes
eCommerce Hack Day will take place at the The Alley space in NYC on August 4-5. Registration for developers is closed, but the ticketing process is still worthy of a mention. Similar to the Ballmer Peakathon: “I have an idea and I just need an engineer to build it pricing filter,” Dwolla aimed to improve the quality of participants by creating a puzzle in the Hack Day’s website source code (here’s a blog post about how they built it). The first 200 developers who solved the puzzle will receive a free ticket to the event.
Missed out? Fear not. Designers are still in demand, and if you just want to attend the demo session, sign ups are still taking place here. If you’re planning on going, make sure you reach out to our developer evangelist, Jon Gottfried, who will be there repping Twilio. Prizes and judges will be announced soon.
To give you an idea of what can be built during the hackathon, check out some of these awesome mashups built using Twilio and some of the other sponsors:
Dollar Thoughts – Twilio & Dwolla
One sentence pitch: Get paid for texting brilliant thoughts.
Send your big idea, big thought, or something you’d just like to share with the world via SMS to 515.650.4583 and Dwolla will send you some money for taking the time to play.
Anonysize.me – Zappos & Twilio
One sentence pitch: Text someone anonymously to find information for gifts.
Don’t want to spoil the surprise? Anonysize.me sends an anonymous text message to someone you’re buying gift for and asks them for information to help you choose the right size, color, etc.
Custard – Twilio & Shopify
One sentence pitch: Click-to-Call feature for online merchants.
Custard allows website owners to easily add click to call functionality to their websites without any required phone or software downloads
Cone Patrol – Twilio
Once sentence pitch: In-stock SMS Notifications for long board products.
Timmy Crawford built his own API mashup for his long-board store to let customers get notified when an out-of-stock item is back in the store.
