Announcing the Twilio & Boxee Developer Contest & Hackathon
Time to read: 2 minutes
But why just hack with the telephone? Our experience with thousands of developers suggests that for communications to be really effective they should be integrated with services people love, and Boxee is a great example. Make sure to check out their post about the contest on the Boxee blog too, and show them some Twitter love!
Boxee is the best way to enjoy entertainment from the internet and computer on your TV. Boxee provides APIs that allow you to turn their service into what you’ve always dreamed of for a media center. For more information, check out the Boxee developer documentation and sign up for a free Twilio trial account, if you haven’t already. It’s already loaded up with $30 in Twilio credit, so you won’t need to spend any money to get started.
Telephony Meets Television
For
the next two weeks, starting now! we challenge you to create applications that
combine our two APIs. At the end of the two weeks, we will be holding
hackathons in San Francisco and New York City.
The developer who submits the best application to the contest will be eligible to win a Netbook from Twilio and, drum roll please… take delivery of a Boxee Box as soon as they become available. Sweet!
How Will You Mashup?
- Interactive in show ads
- QVC style product placement (order by phone) for products within shows
- Check into your favorite shows a la Foursquare (like recently launched Miso)
- Ability to order food while watching TV (like Xbox, maybe integrated with our beloved GrubHub?)
What About the Hackathon?
If you want to come hack on our APIs, finish up your projects, or simply meet our teams please join us! We will be available at both locations to answer questions and brainstorm ideas. There will also be plenty of snacks, pizza, beer, and shenanigans.
