In 1981, IBM built the IBM Model 5150, to democratize the computer. 35 years later, they’re democratizing their computing power with IBM Watson and IBM Bluemix.

When power falls into the hands of creative developers, a lot of rad stuff gets built. Bluemix makes building, deploying, and scaling apps much easier, while Watson adds some super smarts to whatever you build. You could build a video chat for doctors, a SMS quiz game that tests Watson’s smarts, or an app that tells you what mood someones in based on their text messages.

“It lets you do things that, five years ago, you would have needed a team of data scientists for,” says Theodore Wilson, a Developer Advocate at Bluemix.

We talked to Theodore about the meta nature of being a developer who builds tools for developers, and how to conclusively determine what is and isn’t a cat by integrating Twilio MMS and IBM Watson.
