Connecting Technologists and Nonprofits
Nonprofits and charities globally face a generational challenge: shifting economics, the transition to digital-first engagement, and changing demographics in their donor bases call for new fundraising models. This matters because fundraising is the fuel that drives nonprofit impact. It enables organizations to take action on today's most pressing issues such as supporting people displaced by conflict or advocating for practical climate solutions.
The fundraising challenges nonprofits face today are real. For example, UNICEF has been successful in one-time gifts which they use to help refugees from Ukraine or victims of hunger in Afghanistan. While one-time gifts are important, UNICEF is finding it difficult to build long-term relationships with those new donors to drive ongoing donations. Organizations are also seeking new strategies to engage younger generations.
In response UNICEF, the World Wildlife Fund, Oxfam, Médecins Sans Frontières, and eight other leading international nonprofit organizations are looking to the world’s builders to help create innovative solutions to create the future of fundraising. They’re calling on fundraisers, startups, engineers, and marketers, to help accelerate innovation in the global NGO ecosystem.
Together these international nonprofits (NGOs) have formed Reimagining Fundraising, a program with the goal of soliciting new ideas for fundraising from startups, agencies, technology providers and others. Reimagining Fundraising is an opportunity for technologists to work with leading nonprofits to create scalable solutions to one of the big challenges in nonprofit technology - fundraising.
Reimagining Fundraising breaks the current fundraising challenges into 5 categories:
- Category A: Engaging new audiences. Crypto, Gen Z, sustainability, gaming, legacy donors, employee giving.
- Category B: Beyond traditional NGO fundraising models. New fundraising products to build long-term relationships with our supporters.
- Category C: New channels, new tools. Increasing relevance and long-term value when engaging with our supporters.
- Category D: Talent Revolution. Recruiting new fundraising talent - and retaining it
- Category E: Disrupt! Radical new ways to raise money
To drive these solutions forward, Reimagining Fundraising is offering USD $20,000 seed funding grants, technical assistance from challenge sponsors such as Twilio, and a chance to be showcased at the leading fundraising conference outside Amsterdam in October, IFC2022.
UNICEF, the World Wildlife Fund, Oxfam and others need your help to build more impact globally. Learn more about the challenge and how you can join the movement at Reimagining Fundraising. Act now because the deadline to submit your idea is August 17, 2022.
